Utilization of Renewable Energy

Using natural energy at production locations abroad

By installing a solar power generation system on the rooftops of factories in Dongguan Mabuchi and Daojiao Mabuchi in China, approximately 1.42 million kWh of electricity is generated and used at each factory. By using such natural energy, we are working to reduce CO2 emissions for the entire Group.

Reuse of waste heat at overseas bases

The hot water supply system at Dalian Mabuchi and Wafangdian Mabuchi in China has been changed to a system that can recover and reuse exhaust heat. By using hot wastewater and air-conditioning exhaust heat, power consumption has been reduced by more than 80% compared to hot water supply using only electricity.

Reuse of waste heat at Headquarters

Our Headquarters building was built based on Mabuchi Group's Basic Environmental Policy which aims to make the best use of limited resources. By adopting state-of-the-art technologies and methods such as a double-skin structure to minimize heat load and a building-frame thermal storage, the building is well equipped to allow proactive pursuit of energy savings and has achieved more than 20% reduction in life-cycle CO2 emissions compared with buildings of similar scale with standard facilities. emissions over the building's life cycle compared with those of standard facilities.

Continuing energy conservation efforts

After experiencing the power shortage during the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, the Headquarters of Mabuchi Motor has been eliminating unnecessary use of lights in the Headquarters building. But given the recent progress in energy efficient lighting technologies, we are shifting to energy conservation measures using LED lights.

Initiatives for Sound Water Management

Water resource input

We are actively using rainwater to cherish water resources. The Headquarters has been using rainwater since 1991, and each base in the group is also actively using rainwater.
In addition, at each base in the group, including Jiangxi Mabuchi, wastewater treatment facilities have been constructed in the factory, and part of the water treated here is reused for planting water and toilet water.

Biodiversity ― Environmental symbiosis in the region ―

We have created a bio-garden in the front lawn of Headquaters based on a concept of coexistence with the local environment, with the goal of restoring the natural environment of Matsudo in Matsuhidai Industrial Park.
We considered the impact of non-native species on the local ecosystem and created the bio-garden with the goal of restoring the original ecosystem by eradicating the Canada goldenrod, an invasive species, and by planting wildflowers such as patrinia scabiosaefolia and patrinia villosa which have traditionally grown around Matsudo. We continue to manage the site with environmental awareness, keeping in mind its location as a biotope network that maintains the connection with the local ecosystem that spans a wide area rich with nature that includes the neighboring Yahashira Cemetery and the Yagiri-no-Watashi Ferry.

Thorough Separation

Separation of waste is essential for recycling. To promote thorough separation that is easy for everyone, we post signs on separation in prominent locations and establish places for people to leave wastes.
For disposal of motor materials as resources, parts are separated by type of material and processors are selected for each material. While we have contracts with two recycling companies in Japan, some materials at overseas factories cannot be recycled and we are trying to find processors for these.

Environmental measures in the construction of the parking structure for employees

In the construction of a parking structure for the employees of Headquarters, we reduced about 8 tons of CO2 by using LED lights, of course, and also by reducing the use of wooden molds, scaffolds, and excavation soil as environmental measures in the construction phase.

Recycling of Waste

Composting process for fallen leaves and small branches

Since fiscal 2006, Headquarters has been working to recycle food waste, cultivating recyclable suppliers, and continuing to use food waste as feed and compost. As a result, 100% of the garbage generated at Headquarters can be recycled. In addition, 100% of the leaves and twigs on the premises of the head office are recycled by composting them.

Energy-Saving Campaign

As an efforts for forestalling global warming, the head quarter of Mabuchi Motor have introduced a summer dress code called "Cool Biz" from May to October. And as part of the "energy-saving campaign", we have introduced the campaign of "Let's think of the health and environment and walk up 2 floors and walk down 3 floors" and we are trying thereby to reduce carbon dioxide emissions for forestalling global warming. We will continue to reduce carbon dioxide emissions through the educational campaign and campaign of energy savings and through promoting electric power saving activities by reviewing the operational procedures of electric equipment and equipment function.

Reducing Waste in the Production Process

The tip of the motor shaft (*) is chamfered. We have reviewed the polishing method and switched to a forging method to reduce industrial waste and simplify wastewater treatment facilities.

Efforts in the Logistics Field

"Returnable containers" which can be used repeatedly

In the logistics field, we are working to reduce waste by promoting the recycling of polystyrene packing materials used to deliver products to customers and the use of reusable returnable boxes. In addition, in order to reduce the amount of CO2 generated during the collection and transportation of recycled packaging materials, we are promoting the construction of a collection processing system in Japan as well as in locations near our customers.
